Support the corridor of commuter cyclists

Every day hundreds of commuter cyclists travel to various destinations along William Nicol Drive. This as far as we know is the only road in the greater Johannesburg area that carries such high volumes of people traveling on bicycles. It is amazing to watch.

If there is any road anywhere in Johannesburg that should be prioritized for protected separate bicycle lanes development, it is this one.

JUCA will be offering any support that this community of cyclists require. Following a consultative meeting with the cyclists on this corridor, we will be inviting partners to work with us in supporting and celebrating these commuter cyclists.

We also call on the City of Johannesburg and Gauteng Provincial Government to take immediate steps towards developing protected bicycle lanes on this vital corridor.

HOW TO SUPPORT: they always need extra bike equipment, so if you have spare parts or accessories, please donate! Also, cheer them up when seeing them! They are true cycling heroes of Johannesburg.

Call for Bike-Train Leaders for Ride2Work Day

JUCA is calling for experienced commuter cyclists to lead Bike-Trains on Ride2Work Day – 22 April 2015.

The Bike-Train leaders will ferry a convoy of cyclists from their neighbourhood to the area in which they work.

The idea is simple:
1. Identify a street intersection or landmark from where to start the Bike-Train.

2. Indicate a time where people can meet you. We suggest 8am but this is up to the Bike-Train Leader.

3. Identify a convenient and comfortable route for novice riders. We suggest routes contained in the Johannesburg Commuter Bicycle Map. However there may be other more suitable routes.

4. Get in touch with us contact@juca.org.za with the above information.

We will publicize this information on the JUCA website and on the Ride2Work Day Facebook Page.
